This week, the HotelloTOP Year Event took place during the Horecava in Amsterdam. During this event the Hotello of the Year Award was awarded to a hotello who had performed with distinction within or outside the hospitality industry. Also the Talent of the Year Award was given to a student who has very good study results and performed excellently, or accomplished something exceptional, during his or her study at school. Both awards went to Stenden Hotel Management School.
Youngest female hotel Director in Asia
Linda Giebing (graduated Stenden Hotel Management School in 2000) has won the Hotello of the Year Award 2017! She is general manager of Doubletree by Hilton in Penang, Malaysia. She is the youngest female General Manager in Asia. Linda puts the corporate social responsibility high on the agenda. She stimulates local collaborations, gives people in disadvantaged situations a chance and promotes opportunities for women in leadership positions. Linda: "I would like that the best people with the greatest passion can create special experiences for guests, for the environment and for themselves”.
A student or graduate of a Hotel Management School is also known as a ‘hotello’. HotelloTOP is the network organization for student and alumni of the national and international Hotel Management schools. A professional jury has assessed a top 10 of Hospitality professionals on the core values of a hotello; hospitable, optimistic, energetic, socially skilled, inventive and ambitious and pragmatic, with a great work ethic. The result was a list of four finalists of the hotel schools in The Hague, Maastricht and Leeuwarden.
Nikki Berghuis, student at Stenden Hotel Management School, won the Talent of the Year 2017. She won this encouraging award by her enthusiastic video-pitch about what hospitality means for her and how she wants to pass that on to the people around her. "Hospitality is making contact, be the reason someone smiles today" according to a revered Nikki Berghuis. With this positive attitude she beat the two other finalists of Tio College.
