Located in the northeast of the Netherlands, close to the German border and with a population of 33,000, Meppel is very well connected to bigger cities such as Groningen (1 hour by train) and Zwolle (15 minutes by train).
Stenden campus Meppel
Meppel is the most intimate of our campuses. It hosts the unique course in International Teacher Education for Primary Schools (ITEPS), which is offered in conjunction with two partner universities in Norway and Denmark. Despite its intimate size and small student body (230), Meppel is highly international, with students and staff from a variety of countries.
An informal, warm and welcoming town
If you feel at home in a small-town setting, you’ll certainly feel right at home in Meppel, with its numerous parks and canals. The quality of the student life in Meppel can compete with any of its larger counterparts in the central part of the Netherlands.
In your spare time
Meppel has numerous dining spots, theatres and cinemas. The Lord Nelson dance club is a popular spot on weekends, along with the Ogterop Art Theatre. In addition, there are regular events, such as the Canal Festival, which is worth a visit, featuring live music and Canal Cruises.
