First student registers for NHL Stenden from South-East Asia

Bas van Woesik first student of the new university
Pushing the boundaries; it is one of the key words of NHL Stenden University. That is why it was very appropriate that, on November 1, the first student signed on from South-East Asia. From Laos, Bas van Woesik (20) enrolled into the study programme International Hospitality Management, making him the first student of the new university. “The international aspect was the decisive factor.”
From November 1 every year, prospective students can register for a university or higher education programme via the registration portal Studielink. The new university of applied sciences was quickly found by students in Studielink. Both prospective students from the Netherlands as well as abroad immediately started signing up at NHL Stenden University. Bas van Woesik, originally from Houten, was the first Dutch student who enrolled, registering his choice for the international programme Hospitality Management.
The international aspect had been the decisive factor for him. After graduating from secondary school, Bas was bitten by the travel bug in 2015, and he has been travelling the world for the past two years. “I want a study programme that offers me the opportunity to see even more of the world. I also don’t like sitting still; I’m an active person. See the world and roll up my sleeves to work – it all comes together perfectly in my study of choice: International Hospitality Management.”
That he chose Leeuwarden was also not a big surprise. “My brother is currently studying at the International Hospitality Management School here in Leeuwarden. His stories about the school and the city piqued my interest. I also want to come and live in Leeuwarden. It’s a relaxed student town, which appeals to me. My brother really loves it here.”
The first international student also signed up on the first day of registration. This student is from Dubai and enrolled into the Creative Business programme.
