About the course

The programme in International Business and Languages (IBL) teaches you how to work with international contacts in the world of business and how to communicate with people from other cultures. As you can gather from its name, the course has a strong focus on business-related subjects and modern languages. You will be working extensively with students of different nationalities throughout the programme.

First Year

Introduction to the industry

The first year covers the fundamentals, including subjects such as economics, human resource management, organisation, marketing, intercultural communication and law. Besides business English, you will learn a second foreign language, choosing between German, French, Spanish or Dutch.

Second Year

More in-depth study

You will build on the knowledge you acquired in your first year, studying subjects such as strategic marketing, export management, internal and external communications, international economics, trade missions and international law. In addition, you will also take classes in business English and a second foreign language.

Third Year

Internship and international opportunities

You will spend part of the course studying at one of the partner schools or universities of Stenden University of Applied Sciences or you may choose to take part in the Grand Tour. You will also do an internship abroad or at an international company based in the Netherlands.

Fourth Year

Final stage

At this stage of the course, you will learn to think and act at a strategic level and apply this knowledge by completing a practical assignment. In your fourth year, you will then be taking on a final-year project.

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a style of active learning in which you learn by solving problems, as well as develop your practical abilities, including verbal and written communication, conceptual thinking and English. You will chair meetings, take minutes, learn to think critically and come up with solutions together, which will give you the experience you need by the time you are ready to enter the job market.

Your third year is designed to help you further improve your knowledge through a number of elective modules, known as ‘minors’. You will take your minor outside the Netherlands, at one of Stenden’s partner schools and universities in Europe, Latin America or Asia. Alternatively, you can also take various minors during your Grand Tour.
